Waiting

The months post-publication are a strange time. After the huge build up to launch week, there is very little I can do to help Another Time and Place now but wait (and get on with the next one).

No more reviews have appeared, which is a bit disappointing, but I’m still hoping for a ‘local interest’ piece in the Evening Post. Sophie at Macmillan is trying to organise some library readings and the book has also been entered for a couple of prizes, so again, it’s just a case of wait and see.

So I’m trying to stop thinking about it and concentrate my energies on finishing After the Twelfth, which is almost ready for the editor’s eye. Almost, but not quite. I’m very envious of these writers who finish their work in two or three drafts. I don’t seem to be able to let go of mine till I’ve been over it at least a zillion times. And even then I think it needs more work.

I’ve also started research for the third book, which is another Second World War tale, called Thin Ice. I’ve already got a rough first draft for it which I wrote a while ago, and now, with the research, I’m beginning to find my way back into it. I’m looking forward to getting to work on it properly very soon.
