London

This week I went to London for the day and had a great time doing various writerly things.

I browsed the treasures at the British Library, then met Will, my editor (I still get a buzz from saying that) to catch up on all things book related - publicity, sales, etc, and the topic of the moment, finishing the next one.

Then I signed some copies of Another Time and Place for David Headley at Goldsboro Books before heading back to the Macmillan offices in Kings Cross for the main event, which was the launch party for Never Admit to Beige by Jonathan Drapes. It was a fun evening, with a great turn out, and it was good to catch up with several of the other MNW writers including Roger Morris, Lucy McCarraher, Cate Sweeney, Michael Fuchs, Peter Bourne, Brian Martin, and next month’s star, Matt Curran. Interestingly, the main topic of conversation seemed to be the difficulty of writing (and finishing) our second books. Nice to know it isn’t just me.

Thank you for your X’mas Card. Congratulations on publication of your novel.

I had a look at your web-site at once . I ‘m moved and glad at all about your activity.

I bought your novel immediately and I intend to read it while translating slowly from now on.

(but uneasy for my poor English)

My family are so fine. My son will start to work for a building facilities person of the big

constraction company from next year. My daughter is studying about literary arts at WASEDA

    University. Sorry I couldn’t send a card again.(always busy?)

Hope You and Steve and Jake have a wonderfull holiday and a Happy New Year

    Hi Sam
    What a great website!
    Great photo too.
And a third great, great to meet you the other week, hope we can do so again sometime. Will you be at Mike’s retirement?
Hope book is going well. (or great even!)
    Best wishes for 2007.

Thanks Cate - funny, I came across your card yesterday, and thought, I must get in touch with Cate and see how she’s going. You must have heard me!

I don’t know if I’ll make it to Mike’s retirement but it would be nice to meet up again. I’ll be in London again in the next couple of months to do some research for book number 3 at the Imperial War Museum, which is another World War II story, so if you’re around, perhaps we can meet up.

So I read on your blog (http://www.catesblagblog.blogspot.com/) that you’ve finished book 2. Well done. Have you submitted it yet? I’m almost at the stage where I think my second one’s ready for an editor’s eye. Almost but not quite. Maybe, hopefully, by the end of January. I just find it very hard to let it go until I’ve been over it a zillion times.

Fingers crossed for you too in 2007 and I hope you find a title that you like!!

    All the best
    Sam
